SDHXCS PVSA Guidance

The President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is founded by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize the important role of volunteers and honor individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation.

San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School (SDHXCS) is approved as an official Certifying Organization for the PVSA. We encourage current students and/or SDHXCS alumni to participate in community activities and track their time for the recognition through this program.

Below is the general SDHXCS PVSA Guidance:

• Participants record their volunteer hours during the 12-month time period from August 1 to next July 31 using a paper tracking form.
• Participants submit PVSA application package to SDHXCS PTA no later than August 25. The application package should include “San Diego Hua Xia Chinese School PVSA Application Volunteer Hours Summary Form”  and the individual volunteer hour tracking forms. Each tracking form shall be signed by the service sponsor or its representative(s), and specify the service date, service start and end time, and the nature of the service provided.
• SDHXCS PTA verify the application packages, certify volunteers’ eligibility, and order the awards to the eligible applicants in September.
• The students who achieve the award are given a personalized certificate honoring their achievement, a congratulatory letter from the President, and the official President's Service Award pin based on the following levels:

Eligible volunteer hours include volunteer work done for free in order to give back to the community - local, regional, national, international.
SDHXCS PTA accepts volunteer hours from other PVSA certifying organizations, but the total of which shall not exceed the applicant’s total service hours performed for activities organized by SDHXCS.
SDHXCS PTA reserve the rights NOT to accept hours from certain organizations.
